Exfoliating before a wax appointment is one of the best things you can do to ensure smooth, long-lasting results. When you exfoliate properly, it to helps remove dead skin cells, allowing wax to grip the hair more effectively and reducing the chance of ingrown hairs. But not all exfoliation methods are created equal! Using the right technique for each area of your body can make a big difference in your waxing experience.

When to Exfoliate Before a Wax
Timing is everything! We recommend exfoliating 24 hours before your wax appointment—not on the same day. Exfoliating too close to your appointment can leave your skin more sensitive and prone to irritation. By giving your skin a day to recover, you’ll still get the benefits of exfoliation without unnecessary redness or discomfort.
Best Exfoliation Methods for Each Area
Depending on where you’re getting waxed, some exfoliation methods work better than others. Here’s what we recommend:
For Brazilian/Bikini, Facial, or Underarm Waxing: Silicone Scrubber
Delicate skin areas like the bikini line, face, and underarms require a gentler approach. A silicone body or facial scrubber is the perfect tool for these spots because:
✔️ It’s soft and non-abrasive, making it ideal for sensitive skin.
✔️ It helps lift dead skin and unclog pores without over-exfoliating.
✔️ It’s easy to clean and doesn’t harbor bacteria like loofahs or washcloths.
Use your silicone scrubber with our favorite pH balanced, fragrance-free cleanser in the shower the day before your wax appointment (also available at checkout!).
For Arms, Legs, Back, and Chest: Dry Brushing
Larger areas with thicker skin can handle a bit more exfoliation, which is where dry brushing comes in. Dry brushing offers multiple benefits, including:
🌿 Stimulating circulation – Helps bring fresh blood flow to the skin, promoting a healthy glow.
🌿 Encouraging lymphatic drainage – Aids in detoxifying the body and reducing puffiness.
🌿 Preventing ingrown hairs – Removes dead skin so new hair can grow without obstruction.
How to dry brush:
- Use a dry, natural-bristle brush on dry skin before showering.
- Brush in long, upward strokes toward the heart.
- Be gentle—you’re exfoliating, not scrubbing!
- Rinse off in the shower and follow up with moisturizer.
Always Moisturize After You Exfoliate!
Exfoliation removes dead skin, but it can also strip away some of your skin’s natural moisture. After exfoliating, always follow up with a hydrating, fragrance-free lotion or body oil to keep your skin balanced and prevent dryness. Well-moisturized skin also makes for a better wax, as hydrated hair is easier to remove.
